Briefing for Policy Makers
The SDGs, particularly those focusing on “inclusion” and “equality”, are failing[i]. That major inequities along the lines of gender, ethnicity and religion can persist even in the presence of sustained GDP growth is well established, and yet important causes of these stubborn inequities remain unaddressed by policy makers. This policy briefing addresses the role of land governance and administration in perpetuating these problems. It is based on several activities conducted by an Erasmus+ funded Jean Monnet Project led by Dublin City University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Wageningen University, including:
· Original research addressing the impacts of a European Union funded digital land survey conducted in Bangladesh between 2012 – 2017.
· Numerous discussions held with contributing authors to a Special Issue due to be published by the journal Land Use Policy in 2023; this included an intensive two-day hybrid writers’ conference held on 25 – 26th August 2022.
· An International Conference held on 29th – 30th August that brought together academic specialists on land governance from across the world with European civil society organisations including the Transnational Institute (TNI) and Talamh Beo, the Irish wing of the global peasants’ movement La Via Campesina.
The briefing is available in English and French below.
