What we’re reading: Land Digitalisation in Telangana
Mridula Chari at www.Scroll.in has written a brilliant piece on current moves to digitalise land records in the Indian state of Telangana. Chari documents how the changes, rushed through the state legislature and apparently driven by a market agenda to “ease the burden on business”, have had a negative impact on the marginalised. With grim predictability, the reforms are leading to the exclusion of tenants and smallholders, partly through eroding existing safeguards. This article resonates a lot with our research project here in Bangladesh.
